Bitcoin Exchanges List

Cryptocurrencies have gained a lot of popularity in recent times. While they are still by no means mainstream, an increasing number of companies has began to accept payments in Bitcoin. With all of the hype, you may also be considering joining the word of cryptocurrencies.

In order to do that, you must be aware of what crypto exchanges are. These are online trading venues, where the different digital currencies (and tokens) are traded against one another, or against the traditional (fiat) currencies.

It is worth mentioning, that most exchanges do not accept deposits via bank transfer or credit card, but focus on dealing only in the cryptoverse. A few “gateway” companies (such as Coinbase or Bitstamp) can help you overcome the initial barrier.

In essence crypto-exchanges function just like stock exchanges do. Buyers and sellers can place their bids and asks, crating the “order book”. Alternatively they can aggressively trade at the best price someone else has already provided.

However there are several key specifics. First of all crypto exchanges do not close, not even on the weekends. The fees charged by most exchanges are based on the volume of transactions. This makes judging them agaisnt the spread charged by the forex brokers, who offer Bitcoin trading rather tricky. For a full compаrison on the two types of services, check out this post

The short version is that, if you want to own (in order to later transfer and spend) a crypto currency, exchanges are the right place for you. If you are only looking to speculate on the price movements, forex brokers, such as IG may be a better alternative.

Here is a list of some of the most popular cryptocurrency exchanges, which we have reviewed:
