Vortex Trader PRO EA Review - Is it scam or good forex trading system?

Vortex Trader PRO automated system attracted our attention as one of the most popular trading systems on myfxbook, which can not be followed directly through the site’s Autotrader service. We found this to be strange and decided to investigate the system.

Strategy

The trading strategy behind Vortex Trader PRO is not described in details by the developers. They do mention it is not a scalper, martingale nor grid-based system. Our analysis of the recent trading history shows the system closes profitable trades fairly quickly, while losers are let to run further. This is contrary to classic trading wisdom, which dictates you should do exactly the opposite.

The stop-loss level seems to be set at 110 pips for most trades, while the profitable trades are closed much earlier. The initial take-profit level is set at 20 pips, with a vast majority of trades being closed earlier.

From a purely intuitive point of view this type of system should go bankrupt fairly quickly. However, if you manage to register a lot more winning trades than losers, things can work out. This is the most unique part of the system there are lots ow inning trades, although some of them barely cover the spreads.

Historical Performance

Vortex Trader PRO has been recorded on myfxbook since April 2013, while being traded on a live account with Synergy FX. The system has gained astonishing returns, since inception. That being said the system has suffered since October 2015.

The key to Vortex Trader PRO’s success is the high number of profitable trades – 89%. This is typical for some scalpers, or grid based systems, which eventually go bust when a big market move occurs. This system doesn’t appear to be one of those types of EAs in particular, but still feels risky.

Vortex Trader PRO’s profits used to raise fairly smoothly up to October of 2015, as indicated by the chart below.

Vortex Trader Pro profit

Drawdown is mediocre, with the maximum being 27.67%. That being said it has systematically stayed at higher levels since 2015.

Vortex Trader Pro drawdown

The average pips per trade are 4.74, which is above our minimum recommendation of 3 pips. That being said, since the system often closes winning trades prematurely, slippage could turn around the results pretty quickly.

We must mention, withdrawals have been made on this system, which may slightly alter some of the stats at myfxbook. Also keep in mind, that past performance does not guarantee future results.

Pricing

As we mentioned in the beginning of the review, this system can not be followed at myfxbook. Instead it is being sold for a one-time payment of $799 or 3 monthly payments of $347. The website which is selling it feels pretty similar to the ever-popular scamming websites. However, the results at myfxbook are verified, which leads us to believe the offer is legitimate.

Bottom Line

We would not recommend investing in this system, at this point in time. From a purely results-based perspective, it has struggled since 2015. Further more its entire concept feels very risky, although it has worked in the past. Maybe if the developers were a bit more open about their strategy, they would have gained more credibility.
