ThinkForex Relocates HQ to Melbourne, Australia

A while ago we reported on the New Zealand broker ThinkForex opening offices in Australia and obtaining an ASIC license. Back then we talked to Faizan Anees, managing director of ThinkForex, and he shared that at that point the company headquarters were to remain in New Zealand, with expansions in different countries such as Australia and possibly Europe.

However,  things must have changed, because this Friday ThinkForex announced it is relocating HQ to Melbourne, Australia.

"Our expansion into the Australian Forex market with a global headquarters in Melbourne represents a significant step forward for ThinkForex as a firm and will allow us to market our broad range of retail and institutional trading products," said Nauman Anees, also presented as a managing director of ThinkForex. "We have an exciting portfolio planned and traders should stay tuned to our website for upcoming releases."

For the time being, it remains unclear whether the office in Melbourne will replace the one in Sydney, or both offices will continue working simultaneously. The faith of the Auckland office of ThinkForex is also not make public.

Whatever the reasons behind this move, one thing is clear: Australia is the better destination for forex – both on the brokers' and the traders' sides. This is not to say that New Zealand doesn't work for the forex businesses – but Australia is a step ahead in terms of regulation and customer funds protection. One piece of proof for this is ASIC's plan to increase the net capital requirement for brokers to $1 million or 10% of revenue – this will ensure that brokers who hold dealing licenses are properly capitalized and can react adequately when client assets need to be protected.  The regulator's rule that customer money must be kept in segregated accounts is another benefit driving lots of traders to pick an Australian-registered broker for their investments.
