Floating Spreads Now Available on Liquid Markets' MT4 Accounts

Liquid Markets, the Cypriot Forex and CFD broker, today announced it's offering floating spreads on its Premium accounts on the Metatrader 4 (MT4) platform.

Before the change, the broker had offered only fixed spreads on this type of accounts and I must say that I was a bit bedazzled by the fact that the company is offering floating spreads as an alternative. The fixed spreads were rather tight at 0.9 pips for EUR/USD and at 1.6 pips for GBP/USD, and they are preferred by many traders as they don't expand during periods around major market news, for example. Moreover, fixed spreads are more appropriate for certain trading strategies like scalping.

But floating spreads have a major advantage, the fact that they start from a level way lower than the fixed spreads. This is why they are a good choice for traders who know a lot about sessions and market volatility. Imagine my surprise when I saw the table with the floating spread values and I saw the values being the same as the ones of the fixed spreads. The table points to floating spreads of 0.9 pips for EUR/USD, 1.6 pips for GBP/USD and 1.2 pips for USD/JPY. This does not make much sense given that floating spreads may grow while fixed will stay tight. So why should I opt for the floating spreads instead? The single explanation for this is that floating spreads can be characterized by three measures – minimum, average and maximum reading. If the broker is not pointing to a minimum reading but to an average one, then the floating spreads are quite lucrative, as they can actually be smaller than the fixed ones.

Ok, now that we've discussed the floating/fixed spreads pros and cons, let's have a look at the other trading conditions. The Premium MT4 accounts require an initial deposit of at least $10,000 and come with a leverage of up to 1:200. On top of trading with 100 currency pairs, you can trade with CFDs and spot metals.

In case you don't like (or you cannot afford) the MT4 Premium account, you can open a Mini one, which requires an initial deposit between $500 and $9,999 and offers leverage of up to 1:500. But with Mini MT4 accounts you should be satisfied with fixed spreads.

In case you'd like to do some comparison of trading conditions, here are our lists of Forex brokers offering fixed and floating spreads.
