FxPro Goes Talent Hunting: A £3,000 Grant and Summer Internship for One Lucky Student

If you are a finance/econ or finance student and you are interested in currency exchange, you’d better cancel your weekend plans and get down to work: the FxPro forex broker is giving you a chance to get a £3,000 grant and a summer internship. All you have to do in order to get this amazing opportunity is write a killer essay.
Well, there’s more. In order to have a chance of getting your hands on the grant and the fellowship, you would need to be starting an undergraduate degree course in econ, finance or related in the 2012-2013 school year. The institutions that FxPro has picked are the University of Hull, the University of York, the University of Leeds and the Leeds Metropolitan University but more colleges may be added at a later point.
Entrants must submit an essay if 1,000 – 1,500 words on one of the following topics:
- Will the Chinese Yuan become a reserve currency?
- Could a political union save the euro?
- Is government borrowing good or bad for a currency?
The deadline for essay submissions is November 19, 2012 and after that it will be up to FxPro’s Chief Strategist Michael Derks and Chief Economist Simon Smith to decide who gets to win the grant and intern at FxPro’s London office in the summer. This decision will be taken based on the essays, the applicants’ interest and knowledge of the financial interest, as well as character references from the contestants’ tutors. The winner will be announced on January 31, 2013.
The competition winner will receive their £3,000 grant in three instalments – one in December 2012 and two more at the beginning of the second and third trimesters (March 2013 and May 2013).
Simon Smith, the Chief Economist at FXPro said: “I’ve worked with lots of interns and placement students over the years. They have kept me in touch with the way education is evolving but have also been important in bringing a fresh perspective to my work and the business, often asking the questions others either daren’t or don’t think to ask. It’s also important for all firms to help bridge that gap between theory and application. In economics especially, it can sometimes be difficult to bridge that gap and I believe that an internship at FXPro will help the winner achieve that.”
FxPro is not the first broker to go back to school for talent hunting. Oanda has been running the fxUni forex educational program for three years in a row now – in fact, the winner of this year’s course was just announced. This year the program went outside Singapore where it was held previous years, and welcomed tertiary students from Hong Kong, Japan and Australia as well.
