Forex.com Becomes the Official Sponsor of Manchester City FC

Since it's Friday and we're all anticipating the weekend, here's some news from the financial sphere that are a bit more... well, weekend-y. GAIN Capital has just signed an exclusive partnership with no one else but the Manchester City football club. Forex.com will be now the “Official Online Trading Partner” of Manchester City. Now that's a way to mix trading and training – a combo we know to be sucessful from Alpari's sponsorship of West Ham

The sponsorship deal will be officially announced today in Hong Kong. The football team is currently there as a part of its pre-season tour, and will play in the 2013 Barclays Asia Trophy tournament. The team's captain Vincent Kompany, chief commercial and operating officer Tom Glick, and GAIN Capital's regional director Shane Braunstein will have the honor to make the announcement.

The deal stipulates that as a part of the partnership agreement Forex.com will create exclusive behind-the-scenes content of Manchester City, so that the general public gets a glimpse of how the team is run from players', business operations and backroom staff perspectives. I supposed that this would be interesting for the hardcore fans of the club but I would like to contribute with some suggestions for the said general public:

- Manchester City plays a game where each player has to hold a tabled or a smartphone and trade while scoring points for the team;
- Organizing a game where Forex.com executives play in different roles (I propose GAIN Capital's CEO Glenn Stevens for a defense position);
-  Offer a Manchester City skin of the broker's platform;
- Launch a forex school where everything is explained in football terms.

See? Way more exciting. As soon as I publish this post online, I'm going to shoot an email to Samantha Roady, chief marketing officer of GAIN. She seems to be quite excited about the partnership and I just know that she'll definitely consider my ideas.

"We are extremely pleased to partner with Manchester City,” Roady shared. “Besides being one of the most prestigious football clubs in the world, they are leading the way in digital innovation among sports brands. As an online business, we are excited by the opportunity to work closely with Manchester City to explore innovative ways to leverage our respective digital and social media presences to build our brand among football fans across the globe," she added.

Manchester City's Tom Glick also made a statement: "GAIN Capital and Manchester City are both leaders in their respective fields. Our partnership is rooted in the recognition that the fundamental elements of success in football and trading are the same: strong preparation and superior execution. GAIN's plans to leverage this connection are unique in sports sponsorship and we look forward to working with them."

Whatever the end result of this cooperation, I'm sure it will be good and will help GAIN attract a number of football fans.
