2012 In Review: Forex.com

Dec 25 2012

Forexbrokerz.com

2012 was a good year for Gain Capital’s Forex.com. It launched a new CFD platform, added more languages to its customer support team, set up operations in Canada, and so on. Let’s take a look at everything that happened for the broker.

In January, Forex.com released a pattern recognition tool to help its traders spot patterns easier. The tool is in fact an Autochartist plugin for the MetaTrader 4 (MT4) platform and lets traders act upon the patterns that occur in order to maximize their trading profit.

Later on the same month, ze broker's German customers must have jumped with joy when a fully localized German service was launched.

February was quiet but in March Forex.com presented its customers with an expanded offering: Platinum, Palladium and Russian Rouble (USD/RUB) were added to the list of trading instruments.

In April the Japanese had to divide their attention between the cherry trees that were about to blossom, and the special treat Forex.com had for them: the platform for signal copying Mirror Trader was launched for the Japanese clients of the company.

In may the cherry trees must have been in full blossom, and so was Forex.com: it released its Q1 results that were pretty good: the average accounts size had grown significantly, so had the amount of customer assets held with the broker, and institutional trading volumes had gone through the roof.

Encouraged by this success, in June Gain Capital diversified its portfolio even more by acquiring the Open E Cry online futures broker.

In July Forex.com became one of the first broker to develop a one-click dealing plug-in for the MT4 platform. Later on single-click trading became an industry standard and today pretty much any broker on the market offers such a feature, but back then, Forex.com was a visionary.

The same month, Forex.com Canada started accepted clients.

In August most of the world was melting in the summer heat but Gain Capital's forex business had remained pretty firm: Q2 results came in to reassure the broker and its customers that business was growing.

October was the month when the TRADE platform for CFD trading came to life. We were quite happy to see a piece of software with so many cool features (take the heat map for example), and yet so easy to use.

In November it was time for quarterly results again. In Q3, the retail forex business of the broker was not going too good - at that point, most brokers were suffering from the low market volatility and decreasing retail volumes – but the institutional business was flourishing.

Later on Indonesia's largest futures exchange ICDX received a green light to start offering currency products and Forex.com was the first company to get into business with ICDX

In the meantime, the broker sent a representative to speak at the International Traders Expo in Las Vegas. Chris Tevere, Senior Technical Strategist at Forex.com, spoke about the timing in forex trading.

To pick up its retail business, the broker also started a rebate promotion

And despite the almost dead global retail forex scene, Forex.com ended the year on a positive note: it took over GFT's US retail customers, after GFT withdrew from that particular market.

Well done, Forex.com, well done!
