Selinus Investment Review - is selinusinvestment.com scam or good forex broker?

RATING: 1 / 0 REVIEWS Selinus Investment
Selinus Investment is an offshore broker. Your money is not safe.

Selinus Investment is a MT5 forex broker that offers the four account types listed above. If you are tempted to invest and grab those “guaranteed” monthly profit, please, go through our review first. We have major concerns regarding this broker, who has already been exposed as a clone by Spain’s financial regulator.

Selinus Investment Advantages

MT5 available, seemingly good spreads

Actually, trading with Selinus Investment does not appear to have many benefits to it, but the one that stands out is the availability of the MetaTrader 5 (MT5) platform.

The latest MetaQuotes software is currently one of the most popular forex trading platforms. The main advantage of MT5 over its predecessor MT4 is the fact that it enables traders to execute trades on different financial markets (including stock exchange markets) through a single account. Furthermore, MT5's execution speed is faster than those of its predecessor.

Besides, when we tested Selinus Investment’ MT5 in demo mode, we found the spread on EUR/USD floating around 0.3 pips, and a small commission applied, so its pricing seems attractive

Although the trading costs with this broker seem low, keep in mind that it is not licensed and could be involved in scam. So, you’d better check out the pricing of some top-notch brokers instead:

Selinus Investment Disadvantages

False claims of regulation

Although the broker’s Terms and conditions mention compliance with the IFSC Rules, which suggests that it is registered with Belize’s International Financial Services Commission, Selinus Investment claims to be regulated by the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht – BaFin).

When we checked the Registration number provided by the broker, we discovered that it belongs to Selinus Capital Advisors GmbH. This is a company raising capital for international real estate funds, international infrastructure, private equity and private debt funds. It operates via the websites selinus-capital.com and selinus-advisors.com and is not related in any way to Selinus Investment.

In other words, the latter operates as a clone firm, illegally using the regulation number and registered address of a company that is indeed authorized by BaFin.

Blacklisted by the Spanish regulator as a clone

Although Selinus Investment is not authorized to provide financial services on any regulated market, it obviously targets European investors. Its website is available in English, German and Italian, and it also seems to offer its “services” in Spain, because the Spanish financial watchdog, the CNMV, has warned Selinus Investment is a clone.

Trading conditions not disclosed

Selinus Investment has not presented on its website any trading conditions, other than the initial investment required and some monthly profits it promises to clients. The lack of clarity and transparency regarding a forex broker’s key trading conditions such as spreads, leverage levels, etc., always leaves a bad impression, and is actually very common among scam brokers.

As regards the monthly profits promised by Selinus Investment ranging from 4.15%to 6.25% by account type, we feel the need to clarify that no company and no authority can guarantee you any steady returns in the online trading world. For example, now that legitimate EU brokers are obliged to report the percentage of their clients losing money, their statistics show that from 65% to 85% of all traders suffer losses.

Related to another clone firm

As we recently exposed another forex brokerage as a clone, Acatrades, we spotted that the latter and Selinus Investment share a lot of similarities. First, both brokers illegally the details of BaFin-licensed companies. Second, they both use a MT5 provided by Bulgarian company Platformsfx Ltd. Third, their account types and websites are almost the same.

Considering the above, we suspect that Acatrades and Selinus Investment are part of some sort of serial scam, and are operated by one and the same con-artists. \

Very high initial deposit

On top of all the disadvantages of Selinus Investment listed above, the broker requires an initial investment of $5000 for its most basic account, which is pretty excessive. By comparison, most brokers, including licensed and reliable ones, require something in the range of $100 - $250 as a start.

Conclusion

We believe we have highlighted enough disadvantages of Selinus Investment to deter you from investing with this scammer.

Unfortunately, the forex trading world is plagued with fraudsters trying to rip-off naive investors in every possible way. That is why investors should always be on the alert and check carefully brokers’ details and the public registers of the respective financial regulators in order to make sure they deal only with licensed and reliable companies.

There are plenty of brokerages that hold licenses issued by reputable financial authorities such as UK’s FCA, Cyprus’ CySEC or Australia’s ASIC. Below, you can find more information about regulation in Cyprus as well as a list of brokers licensed there.
