NIX-E is a cryptocurrency exchange, which supports a few coins and accepts an unusual payment method. While the company has an English interface, it mostly targets the Russian market, given the payment options. That being said, the entire project looks somewhat risky and has few user reviews.

NIX-E Advantages

Low trading fees – with a 0.10% fee, NIX-E is apparently very competitive. Most exchanges have different fees for market “makers” and “takers” (those who add liquidity to exchange or those simply take the best available price). They usually go around 0.20-25%, or double the ones at this exchange.

Clean interface
– even unsophisticated traders will be able to easily get their way around this website. Additionally all the terms are explained in a single, “information” field, which is easy to navigate. We will provide a screenshot below, to illustrate another point.

NIX-E Disadvantages

Connected to an unregulated company – NIX-E is a project developed by NIX Money, a Rusia-centric payment services provider. While we managed to find some positive user reviews on the system, there were also some scam complaints. We can’t trust either of them too much, as they are simply anonymous reviews, but what we can say for sure is that this entity is not associated with the Russian Central Bank or any regulatory agency.

Fiat only via NIX Money – the only way of making a fiat deposit to this exchange is through the company’s own payment system. This may seem obvious, as the crypto-exchange is simply an extension of the original company, but may be a bit inconvenient for some. To find where you can simply use a credit card to buy Bitcoin, check the link below.

Poor charting
– the overall design of NIX-E is nice, but the one thing which most active traders will not appreciate is the charting package. It does its job, but is very simple. Here is a preview of the entire interface (click to zoom):

Volumes and liquidity are low– what one could clearly notice from the picture above is the low volume and wide spreads. At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading around $8.100 and the best bid at NIX-E is around $5,500 (the lowest offer is near $10,100). The low trading volumes are illustrated by the multiple gaps in the chart and the volume bar on the lower right section.

Some risky coins supported
– since the most popular cryptocurrency is traded in that way, one could only imagine the altcoin market. The fact NIX-E supports some unknown coins, like CRT, makes them appear dodgy. The coin in question’s website is down at the time of writing.

The other coins at this exchange are LTC, DOGE, GBC and CL.

No margin trading
– this trading venue barely has decent volumes for regular traders, let alone those who are willing to borrow. If you are such an aggressive speculator, forex brokers may be a better alternative.

They provide trading with Contracts For Difference (CFDs). This is slightly different than trading actual cryptocurrencies. CFDs are a relatively new asset class, designed to follow the price movement of something else. In essence this means you are only trading the price of the coin, without owning it. This is suitable for short term speculation, but may not be for long-term investing. Learn more here.

NIX-E is a cryptocurrency exchange, connected to the NIX Money payment system. The company mostly targets Russian clients, but more importantly is not regulated. Whether or not, you trust this exchange, will depend on the opinion you have on the payment provider. Be sure to leave your experience in the comment section below.

Even if this is an honest business, the current state of NIX-E isn’t impressive. With low volumes and wide spreads, new traders will not find much reasons to stay there. This mat change in the future.

Don’t forget the general risks involved with the cryptocurrency world. Even exchanges, which seemed legitimate at one point have collapsed (with Mt.Gox being the most obvious example). Trading with a highly regulated forex broker is much safer. For more details, see the link below.
