HighCapitalAdvantages

CySEC license

The best thing about HighCapital is its solid regulation and the fact that it is a part of a well-established global group. The company behind the brand, H.C.F.S. HIGH CAPITAL FINANCIAL SERVICES LTD., is licensed and regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC).

Forex brokers in Cyprus are referred to as Cypriot Investment Firms (CIFs) are required to meet a set of requirements and to adhere to certain rules, thus insuring the financial soundness and customer protection in the country. Moreover, each CySEC-regulated broker is entitled to offer its services to citizens of all EU EEA countries, without further hassle (under MiFID rules).

MetaTrader 4 offered

As it already became clear, clients of HighCapital are provided with access to MT4, which is definitely considered an advantage. This platform has stood the test of time and is loved by many traders globally for its reliability and great functionalities. The latter include supreme charting with a number of technical analysis indicators, automated trading strategies (EAs), rich back-testing environment and more.

Reasonable leverage

HighCapital provides a default leverage of 1:50, which is not much, but yet sufficient, if you are not willing to put much at stake.

Note that in August 2018 the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) caped the maximum leverage allowed for retail forex traders on the European market at 1:30, while similar restrictions are already in place in the US and Japan.

STP brokerage

HighCapital promises that it arranges for the execution of client orders with another entity and does not execute them itself as a principal to principal against clients. A broker that does not act as a Market Maker is definitely a better choice, as the clients' losses are not brokers' profits.

AMP Global Disadvantages

MT4 provided by a third party, no demo accounts

We tried to open a demo account with HighCapital, but our efforts proved fruitless. All decent forex brokers offer free testing service as a part of their transparent offering and pricing.

On top of that, when we downloaded the broker’s MT4, we saw that it is not provided by H.C.F.S. High Capital Financial Services Ltd., but by some third party (Antelope). We don’t know whether and how the two companies are related, but either way, we consider it a disadvantage.

High Costs of trading

The trading costs on both Bronze and Silver account types (above 2 and above 1.5 pips on EUR/USD, respectively) are higher than the average in the industry, not to mention the strange manner in which the commission applicable is presented on HighCapital’s website. Most brokers offer spreads in the range of 1.0 – 1.5 pips on EUR/USD, commission included. For further information and comparison, check out the below link.

Conclusion

Although we have some concerns regarding HighCapital, such as the lack of free testing service and the high cost of trading, trading with this broker is generally safe due to its CySEC license.

We keep reiterating that the safety of any investment should take priority over the cost of trading. That being said, the regulatory environment in Cyprus is quite solid. CIFs have to a set of requirements, including to provide compensation scheme coverage (to a maximum of €20,000) in case of insolvency.
